Our Beliefs

Common Beliefs

We are primarily a group of pastors and representatives from the Christian churches in our area.  While we may differ on various details of theology, and individual churches will no doubt express their distinctive beliefs on their own websites, we hold in common those biblical beliefs which we believe Christians have held in common down through the centuries.  At the same time, as sinners saved only by grace, we hope to imitate Jesus Christ, who was called a friend of sinners, and welcome all who would come seeking to know him, regardless of their background, past, or current condition.

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  (John 1:1,14,18, 20:28-29, Titus 2:13, II Peter 1:1, Acts 5:3-4, Hebrews 9:14, Matthew 28:19, I Corinthians 12:4-6, II Corinthians 13:14, Titus 3:4-6)

We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.  (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 32:6, Isaiah 40:28, Colossians 1:11-16)

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who is fully human and fully divine.  For us and for our salvation, which He alone can provide, He came down from heaven, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  On the third day He rose again from the dead, in accordance with the Scriptures.  He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father.  From there He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.  Apart from Him, we can do nothing.  (John 1:14-18, 3:16, Galatians 4:4, Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:14, Luke 1:26-35, Mark 15:15, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, Mark 12:36, Ephesians 1:20-21, II Timothy 4:1, Isaiah 9:6-7, John 15:5)

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken by the prophets, who indwells all true believers, producing spiritual fruit and giving spiritual gifts for building up the body of Christ.  (Romans 7:6, 8:11, John 14:16-17, 26, 15:26, 16:7, II Peter 1:20-21, I Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19-20, Galatians 5:22-23, Romans 12:3-8, I Corinthians 12:1-31, Ephesians 4:11-16)

We believe in one holy catholic (or universal) and apostolic Church, which is the body of Christ on earth, and the spiritual union of all who ever truly trust in Him as Savior and Lord.  (Matthew 16:16-18, John 17:1-26, Ephesians 4:1-16, 2:19-22, I Corinthians 12:1-31)

We believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  (Isaiah 53:5-6, Matthew 26:27-28, Luke 1:76-79, 24:45-47, Acts 2:38, 10:34-43, Colossians 1:13-14, John 11:25-26, I Corinthians 15:3-7, 12-26, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, Matthew 25:31-46, John 3:16, 3:36, 5:19-29, 17:3, I John 5:11-13)

We believe the Bible is the Word of God written, breathed by God and true in all that it affirms.  It is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the child of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.  It is our duty and privilege to meditate on it day and night.  (II Timothy 3:16-17, John 10:35, II Peter 1:20-21, Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-6)

We believe in prayer in Jesus’ name as a necessary spiritual discipline, a continuing communication and communion with God, and a power that God uses to change both us and the world around us.  (John 15:7-8, 16:24, I Thessalonians 5:16-18, Ephesians 6:18, I Timothy 2:1-4, Philippians 4:6-7, James 5:13-18)

We believe we are called by God first of all to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor, our brothers and sisters, and even our enemies as we love ourselves, and as Christ has first loved us.  (Matthew 22:34-40, 5:43-48, John 13:34-35, I John 4:19-21)

We believe God wants to have a personal, loving relationship with everyone, but that our sins have separated us from Him.  God's solution was to send His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross in our place, taking the punishment for our sin.  We receive the free gift of salvation and eternal life only by repenting of our sin, believing and trusting in Jesus as our risen and living Savior, and receiving Him as our Lord.  In summary, God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (I Timothy 2:3-4, II Peter 3:9, Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9, John 1:12-13, John 3:16)

We hold to these core biblical beliefs, and believe in Jesus Christ as the only way to Salvation.  (John 3:16, John 14:6, Acts 4:12)  (The way to Salvation through Jesus is more fully presented under the tab labeled Salvation in this website.)

In all our work together, our focus is on Christ and being His faithful disciples, loving God with all we are, and sharing His love and Good News with our community in order to make disciples of Jesus Christ out of all nations and people-groups.  (Hebrews 12:1-2, Luke 14:26-33, Romans 12:1-21, Matthew 22:34-40, I Corinthians 13:1-13, Romans 1:16-17, Matthew 28:18-20)
